Salting for Homeowners

Picture
Once you put salt down, it doesn't go away.
Tips:
  • Shovel and plow early + often. If temps drop, it could become more icy and harder to remove
  • The less ice there is, the less salt you need to use. Deicers work best on a thin layer of ice.
  • To prevent harmful chlorides from reaching rivers and streams, homeowners can sweep up excess salt that remains after a storm and reuse or throw it away.
